About the Author
Comic book writer, game author and journalist Julien Blondel worked as a radio host for 14 years before becoming a DJ. In 1994, he abandoned the electronica scene for a career in writing. Since then he's written numerous successful screenplays, comics and short stories.

The ears have a point.

All and all, a very impressive standalone reinterpretation of the original. Sure, many many things changed. Some for the better, some for the worse, but the core love triangle and Elric's character are clearer and more emotionally (and logically) believable than ever because of some of the changes, and the work is awesome, especially the art. I don't measure success of adaptations by how close to the original they steered, but by how wonderful they are on their own and, only as an afterthought how they capture the core of the original. There is plenty of room in the multiverse, after all. Overall, this is definitely wonderful, and true to the original love triangle and flawed character of Eric very, very well. Sure, there are pointless additions, like pointed ears (why, why do the always do that?). Imrryr, the Beautiful, the Dreaming City and it's drug-addled, near-insane inhabitants whose shameless pursuit of pleasure knows no bounds is changed to something from Hellraiser (how cliche, what a waste of an opportunity), and other things. But those aren't enough to derail the astonishing art, the often truly better characterizations, that this brings to the table. I loved it, and I can now see an Elric movie (or two... please leave it at two, though) as possible and worth seeing. In the end no one can take away the real world Moorcock painted in my head for me decades ago, so this is a welcome re-thinking, nothing is lost.

Wish it a bit was longer...

The art is above average as for story... though It has been almost 20 years since I have red the original novels, it seemed rushed which makes sense since it is comic book form... overall for 12 dollars for a hardcover seemingly single issues comic book i was able to finish in less the 10 minutes I do not think I will continue to purchase future volumes... Maybe will just have to pick up the original [non-picture] books and go for a proper re-red...

The Definitive Elric Comic

Absolutely stunning. Moorcock writes in the foreword that he finds this volume the finest adaptation of his work to date, and I agree. He's given his blessing to every change, saying that frankly he wishes he thought of the tweaks first. The book truly captures the decadence and cruelty of Melnibone. It does not shy from depicting the Melniboneans in all their awful glory. Unlike other adaptations, the character designs feel completely true to the tone of the original book. The art is fresh and alive; the artists worked hard to inject their linework with vibrance and I don't think there's a subpar frame in the whole book. For anyone who is a fan of Elric, this is the beginning of the definitive adaptation. For anyone new to Elric, this book will show you the beginning of a story of one of the original anti-heroes, a character created to be the antithesis of hobbits and Conan the Warrior. Dark magic, swashbuckling swordplay, depravity beyond your imaginings, twisted nations and people, gods who feast on souls and chaos. This is the world of Elric laid out for your eyes to drink in. It will only get better from this volume on.

ETA: I just wanted to expand on this version of the comic versus the ones by P. Craig Russel. Titan is going to re-release the comics by Russel, which until now were probably considered "the definitive edition", so it's worth comparing. The Russel comics are much more true to the original stories and allow much more space for the story to lay out. What this comic does in 64 pages, the Russel one does in 176. However, as a big fan of Moorcock I never quite felt Russel struck the "tone" right with the artwork, which is why I love this new comic by Blondel/Poli more. The Russel comics are done in light wash watercolor, which while doing psychedelic or out-of-this-world experiences very well, ends up with disconnects like Rackhir the Red Archer dressed all in pink. The artwork never felt cohesive - Melnibone would have light, spindly towers in the city but use giant rectangular solid gold warships with an almost aztec look. Elric looked properly elvish but Yrkoon looked like a totally different race - in particular, some sort of ape-human hybrid dressed in clown makeup. And Dyvim ends up looking like a buff human lumberjack. So, while I do wish this new comic by Blondel/Poli could fill out some more pages just so I can have some more, the artwork feels incredibly solid and cohesive. All the characters from Melnibone look like they are from the same race and dress in a fashion that makes the culture look well considered and thought out. This passes through the whole book, which I feel has a properly "grand" style of framing shots to give the comic the feel of an epic fantasy. Anyway, my two cents on comparing these two comics.

Good, predictable book

I read this book because a homeless women whom I've grown to really like a great deal, has a real burning love for homeless teens. She made me promise I would read it. It is a very easy read and wonderful story of how the Lord steps in to help those who walk by faith in taking on what appears impossible to others. It is also a very strong testimonial to how one person can make a tremendous difference in the world.

My most important take away from this book isn't "to trust God", that is a given, but to not give up on teens. So many people have good intentions in working with teens, the homeless and other disadvantaged group. Like the seed thrown on poor soil they start with a flurry and wither in the competition from other things in their life. I have worked with many disadvantaged and the worst thing you can do is show your face and then pull back on your commitment.

The Cross and the Switchblade really brings to light the importance of not giving up on this group. As I write this during the Christmas season where good meaning people bubble over with generosity, I'm deeply saddened because the people whom get the attention during this season are forgetten the other 11 months of the year.

I would recommend this book to any one he believes a social situation is hopeless and they can't make any difference.

One of a kind book. A Must Read.

I read this a long time ago and decided to re-read it now. I'm 60 years old now and accepted Christ as a 7 or 8 year old at a David Wilkerson "rally" back in the 60's in Pittsburgh where Nicky Cruz gave his testimony. The Holy Spirit power moved through Wilkerson (and Cruz) like I've never seen before or since. There was no way I could leave that meeting without accepting Christ, despite my pride. I thank God for these two men. This book captures so much of that; you will feel the Holy Spirit speak through this account of the early days of his ministry. For those that do not know Christ as savior, or even Christians that are still unaware of the power of the Holy Spirit, some accounts in the book will seem ridiculous, impossible, made up. I assure you they are not. If you had sat through one of his meetings you would have felt a pull and power that, without it, these events could not have happened like they did. As you read, pray for that power to reveal the truth to you. I pray for more current day "watchman" like Wilkerson to arise and reach people for Christ.

A great TRUE story about courageus evangelism on the streets of NYC

The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson was a inspiring true story from the 60's that kept me engaged and wanting to read more. David Wilkerson, a Christian and small town preacher from Pennsylvania, felt a strong urge from God to go and help the boys and gangs in New York City. David Wilkerson started living out his faith boldly by traveling to New York City to walk around the streets and preach and evangelize to the gangs. After being in New York and making relationships, David Wilkerson sensed God telling him to move there full-time. Eventually, Wilkerson moved his whole family there and through a series of miracles ended up buying a huge house, later know as Teen Challenge, for the street teens to live in and go through drug rehab. Wilkerson helped a lot of people become Christians and get rid of drug and sex addictions.

I (and I am a teenager) would recommend this book to any Christian or person who is young in his/her faith and wondering how God works through people. This was a really good book and a fairly easy read. I give this book 5 stars.

PAGES MISSING!!! VITAL PAGES!!! DON'T BUY...

What isn't included in the product description is that they lack the rights to certain pages for which you must refer to the written format of this book. Let me be clear. When I am puchasing a product I expect the full version or to be informed that I am only getting a portion of it. I, as a consumer have a right to be informed of that prior to spending my money on it. I purchased this e-book as it is required for the Sonography Program at my college. I also wanted the FULL e-book format so I could reduce the amount of wieght as several books are required for the program. Since this is for education what good does it do anyone to be missing whole portions of topics. Topics that are vital to the health community that go over HIPPA , patient rights, occupation expectations, and so many other things!!!! I even went back and checked to see if I had initially misread what I had purchased but nothing is mentioned about it only being a portion or excluding vital pages. The bad part is I had planned on purchasing several e-books from Kindel on Amazon. My advice is to Kindel is to fix your product description so that it is accurate or remove the product altogether until you obtain the full rights to the book.

Text is a good introduction to the discipline of Sonography, but...

This text was required reading for my first term in an 18 month Sonography program. I found it to be comparable to other texts with a couple of annoying issues. First, the author / publisher was LAZY when creating the Table of Contents. Because most Intro to Sonography courses aren't built specifically for this text, the topics jump around. Had the book listed subheadings to each of the nine chapters listed in the contents, it would have been less frustrating and made the text more efficient for the majority of intro courses. Also, the ad nauseam history of sound/ultrasound could have been more brief, or at least a table or representation given to summarize the major historical developments significant to the field of Sonography rather than the single table summarizing milestones in the study of sound from 500 bc to 1883 ad.

What can I say. Some chapters are easier to get through than others, but all are necessary for the class. I can't compare it to similar books as this is my first book for the course I'm taking.

Boo orange highlighter users

Great textbook. The material is easy to read and gives a good amount of information for each theory.
I bought the book used with the status being "very good." The pages were kept in great condition with little creases or bending of the pages (especially the corners). However, I was disappointed with the highlighting. There was a significant amount which normally wouldn't bother me but the previous user used an orange highlighter so it was hard to ignore. They also proceeded to highlight full paragraphs. It was distracting and obnoxious but I saved a lot of money.

Best personality textbook. Not perfect.

It's the best personality textbook I've read, and believe me, I've read a lot of them. So why didn't I give it five stars? The authors have removed a couple of useful chapters and shuffled the order of chapters around to justify continued publication without really updating much. The third edition from way back when is actually better than the current edition. Minor errors have lingered throughout all editions.

Very well organized information as far as theorists go. It's hard to improve on content though when you have little interest in it. It is a book I'll keep though as it is easy to use as a reference because of its organization.

Comprehensive tool for improving your presenting skills

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it extremely valuable. I was working on improving a conference presentation at the time I read it, and incorporated many of the author's suggestions into my talk. I plan to go back and review his resources section to gain additional opportunities to improve my speaking. He proves that no matter how many times you have given a speech or presentation, you can always make it better. This book has hundreds of concrete ideas that you can use to up your game to the next level.

Should be taught in schools and universities

What a wonderful resource - I could have used it all through school, university and work. It should be in included in the "survival kit" of every student and every employee (from entry level to CEO). It would be a great textbook to cover in our schools - it would give our students a head start when it comes to presentations - practical techniques as well as a treasure of resources.

I really found this useful. It has all the little extras in it related to what happens around the presentation - when you enter the room - the mood you set - it's the whole package.

If your job requires you to deliver presentations, you owe it to yourself to read this book. It's one of the best do-it-yourself manuals for presentation skills that I have seen.

As a teenager, he became involved in hypnotism and later became a professional stage hypnotist. After school, he worked in the publishing business and purchased a bookstore. The concept of reincarnation played a significant role in his decision to become a past-life specialist. Richard has also taught psychic development classes, which are based on many of his books.

Richard's first book was published in 1972, fulfilling a childhood dream of becoming an author. Richard is now�the author�of over a hundred books, and is still writing today. His best-selling books include Spirit Guides & Angel Guardians and Creative Visualization for Beginners.�

Richard has appeared on several radio and TV programs in the United States and abroad including guest spots on Hard Copy, WMAQ-TV (Chicago), KTLA-TV (Los Angeles), KSTW-TV (Seattle) and the Mike and Matty Show (ABC). He currently resides in New Zealand with his wife and three children. He regularly travels the world to give lectures, workshops and to continue his research.
