Updated and Even Better

This is an updated edition of the likewise named book released three years ago. It is the same stellar quality of offerings for serious players that want to play sharp, highly tactical openings for White starting with 1.d4 d5 2. c4. It does NOT cover lines in which Black plays 1....Nf6 (that book is coming out soon).

Schandorf provides a lot of high level analysis, high level games, and proposes a very sharp repertoire for White to gain advantage (+/=) out of the opening phase.

Against lines such as Semi-slave he still recommends the Botvinnik variation ( 5. Bg5 ... entering a complex maze of highly tactical middle game moves); Exchange variation with Nge2 against the QGD proper, Ne5 against the main line Slav and the ultra sharp 3. e4 against the Queen's Gambit Accepted. Also covered are opening such as the Tarrasch, Albin's Counter Gambit, Chigorin and even sub-optimal lines for Black such as The Baltic (2. ...Bf5) and the symmetrical 2. ...c5. Improvements to be found in lines against the Noteboom (The triangle -- D31)

NOT for beginners, but aimed instead for intermediate to advanced players that want to study and play aggressive lines as white in tournament play.

Quality Chess has once again delivered another sublime work suitable for Grand Masters to use and inspirational for punters like myself as well.

This is a much more aggressive approach than the recent Watson book, and many of these lines come with considerable risk for White, who must be booked up and ready for tactical combat in order to achieve the advantage that many players feel is White's birthright for having made the first move of the game.

Schandorff is one of the best authors of chess opening books ever

Any book by Schandorff is one I would consider buying, and as a longtime devotee of 1.e4, when I decided to learn some 1.d4, this is the first place I looked. I had glanced through his first version, and the second one recommends many of the same lines. It is more updated, and I really like everything I have ever read from Quality Chess.

The basis of the repertoire is, of course, the Queen's Gambit. Schandorff recommends the Exchange Variation with the King's Knight being developed to e2 (a line I consider relatively harmless in view of recent analysis) with a premature (in my opinion) Qc2 to avoid the Short Variation (which I think is White's only chance for a real edge). Though this particular line has been analyzed to full equality, the rest of the lines in this book are very good. He recommends 5.Bg5 against the Semi-Slav, and treats it very well. Also, good lines are given against the Baltic defense and he doesn't just copy Avrukh's recommendations, which I respect.

Excellent repertoire

In this first of two volumes regarding 1.d4, Lars Schandorff deals with the various tries for Black when he answers 1...d5 (the Queen's Gambit, Slav, Tarrasch and various other lines.) He primarily aims for main lines and fighting variations which promise White a good try for an advantage. The quality of his analysis and explanations are good and I would whole heartedly recommend this to serious players of 1.d4.

Critical monetary theory

This is an important book that breaks down the "currency" part of the financial system in easy to understand details. It is a critical read for anyone interested in the concepts behind money and currency. It is also a nice history lesson that dates back to the 1870s. I don't normally read books that are over 100 years old, but this book is a critical piece of financial history.

If you are thinking about purchasing this book, you are searching for the truth about money and banking. This lost gem contains a wealth of knowledge about how money worked under our original constitutional system. It is available in the public domain on archive websites, but a printed copy is valuable. This author published another book called "The Book" after the Fed was established. It is also a very important read.

This book exposes the important truth that the Dollar was a weight and measure of silver and the Eagle was our weight and measure of Gold under the original coinage act. It was never meant to be changed. It was a both a weight and a measure and a standard. Money is the very lifeblood of society. It is amazing how many of the USA's current problems stem from this departure from the Constitution and the amazing system that the people who founded this country set up.

Also Google, McFadden an astounding exposure, LBJ's comments on the signing of the 1965 coinage act, Jefferson's opinion on the Constitutionality of a National Bank, and finally find a picture of the back of a series 1914 Federal Reserve note and read the fine print. You will start to see the truth. It is shocking when you understand what has happened. Consider that all banknotes were redeemable for silver coin until 1965. This was the ultimate check and balance.

I liked how this book discussed a lot of current methods of making money online, as this is hard to do in constantly changing market. I wish I'd read this years ago

A modern description of a historical event, this play describes the tribulations of Sir Thomas More during the split between the Roman Catholic Church and the newly-formed Church of England. The play lays out the historical details clearly and articulately. The writing is engaging and accessible. Most importantly, the depiction of More is true to everything we know about his personality and morals.

The fascinating part for me is More's approach to the law. There are some very memorable quotes in this play that anyone wanting to understand the law would do well to study. More's character lays out some deep questions about the nature of proof. His situation (and the eventual resolution of his case) illustrate the continuing tension between law as a pure exercise in reason and law as an instrument of state power. Enjoyable as the play is, it is a cautionary tale.

Wonderful as the story is, Bolt's use of the Common Man and the frequent stage directions were a distraction to me - especially with all the hats. I understand the mood that Bolt was trying to set but whenever those parts of the play came around, they actually jolted me out of that mood.

Silence as one effective mode of communication

Even for a woman infertility is a difficult topic to discuss let alone for a stranger about another man's wife. Sir Thomas More's profundity of agony surfaced when he spoke of birth and death in same breath before his impending death. But an unwary reader could have easily missed this passage. There is so much subtle nuiance of description of conducts and gestures packed in this short drama that I'd have to consider re-reading, seeing a play and a movie version.

A man of God versus a selfish man

I love and cherish this play about Sir Thomas More, a church leader who would not go against his morals, ethics and vow of allegiance to the Church despite the insistence of his friend, King Henry VIII. .The main issue of this play is whether there is a separation of law, religion and morals. Further, does an individual have the right to defy the law if it goes against his morals and beliefs. As the play progressed, my admiration for Sir Thomas More grew exponentially as my disdain for King Henry VII, the protagonist of the play for his moral stand against the selfish desires of the king. The new law allowing for the king to divorce is against More's religious principles and he refuses. This courage permeates the play until the bitter end. Sir More places his vow to god above the vow to his king. This is my favorite play and I enjoy rereading it at times.
